Jhenaidah: The 34th International Day of Disabled Persons and the 27th National Day of Disabled Persons were marked in Jhenaidah with events aimed at fostering an inclusive society under the theme 'Build a disability-inclusive society, accelerate social progress.' A vibrant procession commenced from the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 am on Wednesday. This event was organized by the District Social Services Office and the Disabled Services and Support Center, with the district administration spearheading the initiative. The procession traversed main roads in the town and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the procession was led by Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud and included participation from teachers, students, and employees of various educational institutions for persons with disabilities. Officials from different government departments also joined the event. Following the procession, a discussion meeting was held where Additional District Magistrate Subir Kumar Das, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office Md. Abdul Quader, and Registration Officer Md. Hasanuzzaman addressed the attendees.
During the event, Additional Deputy Commissioner Subir Kumar Das emphasized that persons with speech, hearing, and physical disabilities are crucial members of society. 'They are our children; they are not a burden. We want to build a harmonious and beautiful Bangladesh with them,' he stated. Additionally, wheelchairs were distributed to helpless and elderly persons with disabilities as part of the day's program.
