Dhaka: The interim government headed by Prof Muhammad Yunus has been formally dissolved with the formation of the newly elected government under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division this evening confirmed the dissolution and the establishment of the new government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the notification stated that as per Clause (3) of Article 56 of the Constitution, the president has appointed Tarique Rahman as the Prime Minister. This appointment recognizes him as a Member of Parliament who commands the confidence of the majority in the parliament. The president also gave his consent for the formation of a new government under Rahman’s leadership.
The notification further declared that with the establishment of the new government, the Council of Advisers of the current interim government shall be considered dissolved.
