Dhaka: Members of the Chief Adviser's press wing have unanimously affirmed that the interim government is committed to conducting a flawless national election. "The previous three consecutive elections were not elections; those were mockeries to the general people in the name of elections," stated Abul Kalam Azad Mazumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor. However, the current administration is determined to create an environment where citizens can exercise their voting rights freely, he added.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azad Mazumder shared these insights during a views-exchange meeting with government officials, journalists, and civil society members at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office. He emphasized that a level playing field will be established for all contesting parties, as the government remains neutral and does not align with any political party. He assured that there will be no recurrence of past electoral issues, and the law and order situation will be enhanced in the lead-up to the elections.
Mazumder also mentioned that Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has instructed law enforcement agencies to complete all necessary preparations by December for the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mirza Amin Ahmed, Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmmad, and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi were also present and spoke at the event.
In response to a question, Azad Mazumder noted that the government has been working towards the welfare of the media and its professionals, achieving some progress. He assured that adequate measures will be implemented to ensure that media personnel can carry out their professional duties independently during the election period. He also highlighted that Bangladesh has improved by 16 steps in the mass-media index over the past year, contrasting with the previous government's actions, which had regressed the country by 44 steps.
