Inter-District Robber Apprehended in Dinajpur with Stolen Cash and Weapons

Dinajpur: A member of an inter-district robber gang was arrested by police from Bochaganj upazila here today, resulting in the seizure of cash and country-made weapons from his possession.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individual, Abdul Barek, 55, was detained by Bochaganj police from his residence in Akhapur village. He is wanted in nine cases involving robbery, snatching, and theft filed across various police stations in the district, including Bochaganj.



Police reports indicate that on January 11, three night guards at the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) office in Bochaganj were restrained during a robbery, with Abdul Barek and his accomplices named in the case. Acting on secret information, a team led by Sub Inspector Abul Kalam Azad conducted a raid in Akhapur village, arresting Abdul Barek at approximately 2:30 pm.



During the operation, the police recovered cash totaling TK four lakh, a machete used for robbery, seven iron rods, an iron rod with a handle, a lock-cutting iron clip, a pair of black full pants, and a monkey cap from his house. Abdul Barek was subsequently produced before Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court. Police have applied for remand to further interrogate him and aim to bring other members of the inter-district robbery gang to justice.
