Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz emphasized the need to eliminate injustice and chaos from the city during the inauguration of two newly constructed gates at Agargaon and Pragati Sarani. ‘We have just overthrown the oppressor from this country; we must also remove injustice and chaos from our city,’ he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DNCC has constructed two gates, ‘Mukti Toran’ and ‘Swadhinata Toran,’ to commemorate the anti-fascist July Uprising. ‘Mukti Toran’ has been installed on Justice Syed Mahbub Morshed Road at Agargaon, while ‘Swadhinata Toran’ is located in front of Badda Buddhist Temple on Pragati Sarani. Azaz highlighted that these gates serve as a reminder of the anti-fascist struggle, in which people from all walks of life participated, and aim to preserve the memory of the movement while enhancing the city’s aesthetics.

Azaz further mentioned the importance of having structures in the city that remind citizens of past struggles and contribute to the city’s beauty. He warned that keeping the city unclean, cluttered with banners and posters, or damaging greenery are forms of oppression. ‘It is now our responsibility to protect our city from these elements, and we are doing that work,’ he added.

During the inauguration of the ‘Swadhinata Toran’ on Pragati Sarani, Azaz acknowledged the courage of teachers and students from local private universities who participated in the July Movement. The gate has been erected to honor and recognize their contributions.

The event was attended by DNCC Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin, Regional Executive Officer of Region-3 Md Julkar Nayan, and Regional Executive Officer of Region-5 Md Shadequr Rahman, along with other officials.
