Rajshahi: Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has announced an initiative to build 22 playgrounds in the city to further develop the sports arena of Rajshahi. This effort aims to engage the youth in sports and cultural activities as a strategy to create a drug-free Rajshahi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Riton shared these plans during a view exchange meeting with players and officials of the metropolitan football team. The meeting was held on the occasion of the Deputy Commissioner Inter-Upazila Gold Cup Football Competition-2026 at the conference room of Nagar Bhaban.
The Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator emphasized that various steps are being taken to advance the sports scene in Rajshahi. Besides the playgrounds, construction work on an indoor stadium has already commenced.
Riton highlighted that the current government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is actively encouraging sports as a profession and supporting players. This includes providing sports allowances to both former and current players who have achieved success nationally and internationally. Additionally, ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ has been launched to nurture new talent in the region.
He called for the cooperation of sports organizers, players, and guardians to push Rajshahi’s sports arena forward. The meeting saw attendance from notable figures such as RCC Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Vice Presidents Aslam Sarkar and Muktar Hossain, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun Dollar, Rajshahi District Sports Association Member Secretary Mozammel Haque, and players from the metropolitan football team.
