Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged everyone to inform law enforcement agencies about anyone suspected of carrying out sabotage. The adviser made the call while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council on law and order at the Home Ministry, Bangladesh Secretariat, today. He stated that law and order agencies are taking strict measures to prevent any form of anarchy in the country and assured that the agencies are well-prepared to maintain a stable situation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir emphasized that there is no reason to fear any untoward incident on November 13, and that 'terrorists will not be given any concessions.' He highlighted the imminent completion of the procurement process for body-worn cameras for law enforcement, enhancing accountability and transparency in their operations.
Regarding election preparations, the adviser noted a satisfactory situation, mentioning that election training is nearing completion with plans for subsequent rehearsals. He detailed the extensive deployment of security personnel to maintain order during the elections, including 150,000 police personnel, 100,000 army personnel, 35,000 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel, 550,000 Ansar members, and 4,500 navy personnel.
In addressing the recovery of illegal weapons, Jahangir stated that ongoing operations will be intensified to recover unrecovered arms swiftly. He also expressed concern over the proliferation of drugs in communities, urging collective efforts to combat this issue.
The adviser further mentioned the temporary closure of roadside fuel shops to prevent misuse-related incidents and reported heightened security at critical infrastructures like metro rail stations and railway stations. Responding to queries about recent bus fires and bomb explosions, he assured that measures are in place to prevent recurrence and urged political parties to collaborate against acts of sabotage, including arson.
Jahangir also warned that criminals on bail, if involved in further crimes, would face re-arrest. On the issue of potential cross-border criminal activities, he confirmed that border security is being reinforced to prevent any terrorist infiltration ahead of the elections.
