Dhaka: The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh slightly eased in December, reaching 10.89 percent, a decrease from November's 11.38 percent, 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) indicated that the decline was primarily driven by a reduction in both food and non-food inflation. In 2024, the point-to-point food inflation decreased to 12.92 percent in December, down from 13.80 percent in November, as shown by the BBS data. Concurrently, the non-food inflation rate also experienced a slight dip, reaching 9.26 percent in December, down from 9.39 percent in November, 2024.
The point-to-point inflation rate witnessed a decline in both urban and rural areas last month. In rural regions, the rate was 11.09 percent in December, compared to 11.53 percent in November, 2024. Food inflation in rural areas dropped to 12.63 percent in December, from 13.41 percent in November, 2024, while the non-food inflation rate decreased to 9.65 percent in December, down from 9.72 percent in November, 2024.
In contrast, the point-to-point inflation rate in urban areas in December, 2024 was 10.84 percent, a decrease from 11.37 percent in November. Urban food inflation rate in December was 13.56 percent, down from 14.63 percent in November, 2024, while the non-food inflation rate in December, 2024 was 9.17 percent, compared to 9.31 percent in November, 2024.
The wage rate index in December, 2024 stood at 8.14 percent, a slight increase from 8.10 percent in November, 2024.
