Dhaka: The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh eased further in April 2025, reaching 9.17 percent, down from 9.35 percent in March 2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) indicates that this slight decline was primarily driven by a downtrend in both food and non-food inflation. In April 2025, the point-to-point food inflation decreased to 8.63 percent, down from 8.93 percent in the previous month.
Meanwhile, the non-food inflation rate also showed a slight decline, reaching 9.61 percent in April 2025, down from 9.70 percent in March 2025. The data further revealed that the point-to-point inflation rate declined in both rural and urban areas last month. In rural areas, it was 9.15 percent in April 2025, compared to 9.41 percent in March 2025.
The report highlighted that food inflation in rural areas was 8.40 percent in April 2025, down from 8.81 percent in March 2025. Similarly, the non-food inflation rate in rural areas declined to 9.86 percent in April 2025 from 9.97 percent in March 2025.
Conversely, in urban areas, the point-to-point inflation rate in April 2025 was 9.59 percent, slightly down from 9.66 percent in March 2025. Urban food inflation was recorded at 9.13 percent in April 2025, a slight decrease from 9.18 percent in March 2025. The non-food inflation rate in urban areas also saw a minor reduction, reaching 9.88 percent in April 2025, compared to 9.95 percent in March 2025.
The moving average of inflation over the last year, from May 2024 to April 2025, reached 10.21 percent, up from 9.73 percent during the period from May 2023 to April 2024. The wage rate index in April 2025 was recorded at 8.19 percent, slightly rising from 8.15 percent in March 2025.
