Indonesia Proposes Direct Flights and Transit Hub through Dhaka

Dhaka:Visiting Indonesian Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Anis Matta has proposed exploring direct flights between Dhaka and Jakarta, along with using Dhaka as a potential transit hub for Indonesian passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Matta presented this proposal during a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office. The initiative aims to enhance air connectivity, deepen bilateral relations, and facilitate greater movement of people between Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Matta also highlighted Indonesia's interest in using Dhaka as a transit point for Indonesian passengers heading to Saudi Arabia. This proposal could enhance aviation connectivity between the two nations and strengthen Dhaka's role as a regional transit gateway.

State Minister Shama emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral trade and urged Indonesia to import more products from Bangladesh. She also advocated for increased cooperation among women entrepreneurs in both countries.

Welcoming these proposals, Matta expressed Indonesia's readiness to work closely with Bangladesh to deepen economic cooperation beyond traditional business engagements. Shama further called for enhanced collaboration in areas such as environment and climate change, artificial intelligence, and cultural exchange.

In the field of education and training, Shama encouraged Indonesian students to consider higher education opportunities in Bangladesh, particularly in medical universities. The discussions covered a range of mutual interests, reaffirming the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Vice Minister Matta is on an official visit to Bangladesh and is scheduled to depart from Dhaka today.
