Khulna: Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, emphasized that the indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste is polluting nature, disturbing the environmental balance, and diminishing natural beauty. He highlighted these concerns while speaking as the chief guest at an event this afternoon at the university's Hadi Chattar, launching an innovative campaign that promotes environmental awareness by exchanging used plastic bottles for tree saplings.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the program, titled 'Give and Take Session-3,' was organized by Khulna University's Forestry and Wood Technology Club. The Vice-Chancellor lauded the initiative of distributing tree saplings in exchange for used plastic, noting that it is a commendable effort that will significantly raise public awareness about environmental issues.
In his brief address, Professor Karim expressed hope that activities like these would continue to foster environmental consciousness in the future. He also pointed out that students of the Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline regularly engage in environment-friendly initiatives. He emphasized the importance of institutionalizing such practices across organizations to substantially contribute to afforestation and sustainable development.
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor actively participated by handing saplings to students in exchange for plastic bottles. He was also presented with a sapling by the club as a token of appreciation. The event saw the participation of the Director of Student Affairs and Professor of Forestry and Wood Technology, Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat, Club President Inshan Ali, General Secretary Fardeen Dipon, and other club members and students.
