India’s Covid cases mark sharp rise with 10,158 single day infection

The Covid-19 cases across India have marked 30 percent more rise than on Wednesday as the country registered 10,158 new cases in the last 24 hours ended at 8 am today.

According to the Indian health ministry bulletin, with the new cases, the active caseload in the country stands at 44,998 during the period.

The cases of infection, which reported today (Wednesday) have witnessed a sharp rise than yesterday (Tuesday) when a total of 7,830 cases were registered across the country. With the today's cases, the total caseload of the country has reached at 4,42,10,127.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.42 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 4.02 per cent. The active cases now constitute 0.10 per cent of the total infections.

According to reports, the nationwide COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.71 percent while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

Citing official sources NDTV reported yesterday that Covid has entered the endemic stage in India and cases will rise for the next 10-12 days, after which the infections will subside.

In the endemic stage, an infection is restricted to a particular region whereas in pandemic, the infection spreads to a bigger area or even worldwide, the report said.

Meanwhile, Delhi has witnessed a spurt in its single-day counts over the last fortnight amid a sharp rise in H3N2 influenza cases in the country. The number of fresh cases had dropped to zero on January 16, the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The health department on Wednesday said 221 of 7,944 beds in the city's dedicated Covid hospitals are occupied, while 1,995 patients are in home isolation.

Amid surge of coronavirous in India a number of states have already issued precaution instructing people to mandatorily wear face masks during their outdoor activities to prevent spread of the viruses.

Educational institutions in Delhi also asked students to follow Covid protocol and wear face masks in school premises.

Mock drills were conducted at hospitals in Delhi on Tuesday to ascertain their preparedness to tackle the disease amid a surge in cases in the national capital.

Earlier, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said the rise in the number of influenza cases is due to the Influenza A sub-type H3N2. The H3N2 virus is leading to more hospitalisation than the other subtypes. The symptoms include a runny nose, persistent cough and fever.

Besides, CEO of Serum Institute of India Adar Poonawalla today said that the company has restarted manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield amid rising numbers of cases of the virus infection.

"Just as a precaution, at risk we have done it so that people have Covishield as a choice if they want it," Poonawalla told PTI on restarting manufacturing of the vaccine.
