Satkhira:Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained an Indian citizen attempting to cross into India with two packets of gold paste at the Bhomra border. The gold paste, weighing 813.50 grams, is valued at approximately Taka 1.55 crore.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detainee has been identified as Jahir Shah Golam Hossain, 43, from the Chitak Camp area in Mumbai, India. His passport number is Z-6487458. The arrest was announced by Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman, the commanding officer of the BGB-33 Battalion in Satkhira, through a press release issued on Monday night.

BGB acted on a tip-off indicating that an Indian passport holder planned to smuggle a significant amount of gold from Bangladesh into India without paying duties and taxes via the Bhomra Immigration Checkpost. A special operational team from the Bhomra Border Outpost (BOP) conducted the operation, detaining Jahir Shah near a BGB checkpoint close to the immigration area around 900 am on Monday.

During initial questioning, Jahir Shah denied any involvement in smuggling. However, after a subsequent physical examination at a nearby hospital, doctors recovered two packets of gold paste hidden inside his rectum. The BGB confirmed the gold paste's weight and estimated value.

Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman confirmed to BSS that after completing the necessary legal processes, the detainee was handed over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
