Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi today emphasized that the relationship between India and Bangladesh is cemented on people-to-people connections. “This is a relationship between the people of the two countries. It is the responsibility of both countries to protect the interests of their neighbours and maintain mutual trust,” he stated after a meeting with LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan at his Secretariat office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place in the presence of State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam. The occasion marked the foundation anniversary of the BNP, during which the Indian envoy extended his greetings to the BNP leaders and activists.
Discussions during the meeting covered mutual interests and the upcoming local government elections. Dinesh Trivedi praised Dr Moyeen Khan as an experienced ‘statesman’ and remarked that young political leaders have much to learn from his experience.
The Indian High Commissioner highlighted that the dialogue also included positive talks on free trade and economic relations between the two nations. In response to a question, he stressed the importance of moving past internal politics to focus on the welfare and development of the people from both countries.
While declining to comment on the internal politics of Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi underscored the necessity of developing people-to-people relations for future growth, stating, “There will be no development if we are stuck in the past. We want to develop the people-to-people relations.”
