Impact of US Tariff Not Difficult to Manage: Salehuddin

Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today expressed confidence that the new tariffs imposed by the United States authorities will not pose a significant challenge to the country’s economy. “The government has taken necessary initiatives to negotiate with the US authorities regarding the tariff. The impact on the economy due to the new tariffs imposed by the US will not be difficult to manage. We are hopeful that something good will come out of it,” he stated while addressing journalists at the Secretariat on the first working day following the Eid holidays.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Trump administration announced an additional 37% tariff on April 2, adding to the existing average 15% tariff faced by Bangladeshi goods in the US market. Despite these changes, Dr. Ahmed remains optimistic about the country’s ability to handle the economic implications.

c. He noted, “This time people had a good Eid. In March, the country received $3 billion in remittances. As a result, the foreign exchange reserves also increased.”

He further emphasized the improving economic situation of the country, citing the increase in reserves as a positive indicator of economic stability and growth.
