Patuakhali: A man has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment and fined Tk 1 lakh for producing fake ‘Drinko’ brand juice without approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. The convicted person, Masud Sikder, 35, faced this penalty after a drive was conducted at a factory near the Kobi Nazrul Islam Road area of the municipal town on Friday noon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the mobile court operation was led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kawsar Hamid. During the operation, the authorities destroyed 155 packets of the illegal Drinko juice in public using a paver machine and subsequently sealed the factory.
UNO Kawsar Hamid stated that the drive was initiated based on secret information received by the authorities. He further mentioned that operations targeting dishonest traders involved in the production of illegal food items and daily essentials will continue.
