Ijtema Maidan Brought Under Stringent Security: IGP

Tongi: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today announced that stringent security measures have been implemented at the Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur ahead of the Biswa Ijtema, scheduled to occur in three phases beginning January 31 (Friday). The IGP emphasized the enhanced security provisions during a briefing with journalists after inspecting the arrangements at the Bishwa Ijtema Maidan.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police chief stated that the force is prepared to address any potential sabotage threats with support from all stakeholders, including the media. He expressed optimism that the organizers would conduct the Ijtema peacefully and responsibly.



The IGP underscored the importance of collective efforts to ensure the event proceeds safely and securely. He assured that adequate police personnel have been deployed to maintain security at the Ijtema Maidan and its surrounding areas.



A comprehensive security apparatus has been established, including a bomb disposal unit, SWAT team, dog squad, explosives team, crime scene van, and specialized teams to prevent theft, robbery, and pickpocketing. Additionally, naval patrols will enhance the security framework.



To fortify the security setup, the Ijtema Maidan is under CCTV surveillance, with drones and watch towers augmenting the coverage. Archways have been installed at the entrances, where searches will be conducted using handheld metal detectors.



Special security provisions are in place for the movement of VIPs and foreign guests at the Ijtema venue, along with enhanced measures at railway stations to safeguard attendees’ transit.



Present at the security briefing were Additional IG (Crime and Operations) Md. Akram Hossain, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, other senior police officers, and leaders from the Tabligh community.
