Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today called upon police personnel to mentally prepare themselves to ensure a fair and neutral election, emphasizing the importance of sincerity in performing their duties. “Get mentally prepared to present a fair and impartial election to the people,” he stated at the monthly crime review meeting of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for May 2025, held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police chief stressed the importance of dedication from every police member in fulfilling their assigned duties. He highlighted the crucial role of DMP as a key unit of the Bangladesh Police, noting that the public expects excellent service and professionalism from them. “One must always be alert and ready while performing mobile duty, guard duty, and diplomatic duties under their respective police station areas,” he added. He also advised his subordinates against using mobile phones while on duty, emphasizing that crime control and public safety are closely tied to police responsibilities.
DMP Commissioner SM Sajjad Ali echoed the IGP’s sentiments, stating that a successful election should be conducted in a free, fair, and festive atmosphere, regardless of party affiliations. “Perform the electoral duties with cent percent impartiality for the welfare of the people. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police will always be ready to face any challenge during the election,” he assured. The DMP chief also highlighted the need for increased efforts to apprehend criminals, suggesting that the arrest rate should be improved through intelligence-based identification.
Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Faruk Ahmed urged vigilance regarding activities of banned political parties and possible sabotage. Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam emphasized the need to expedite the work of field-level officers and update tenant information in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS). He called for the prompt investigation and resolution of cases related to the July movement and advised police stations to remain alert to prevent sudden processions.
During the meeting, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented the overall crime situation for May 2025, covering cases related to robbery, theft, murder, road accidents, and other offenses. The DMP Commissioner awarded officers of various ranks in recognition of their outstanding work in maintaining law and order during the month. High-ranking officials, including Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali and Additional Police Commissioner (CTTC) Md. Masud Karim, along with other police officers, attended the meeting.
