Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today showed former Awami League lawmaker from Chattogram-6, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, arrested in a case filed for crimes against humanity over atrocities committed during the July-August mass uprising. The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order, allowing the prosecution’s plea. The court then sent the former lawmaker back to jail.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, prosecutor Abdullah Al Noman stated, “He is accused of abetting, inciting, and participating in the attacks on students and people along with other leaders and cadres of Awami League in Chattogram on July 16. According to eyewitnesses, he also supplied arms to the attackers. Three people, Wasim Akram, Faruk, and Foysal Ahmed Shanto, were martyred in the attacks in the Muradpur Mor area under Panchlaish thana.”

The prosecutor, however, did not reveal the identities of the other accused in case number ICT BD 10/2025 due to security reasons. Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud, Gazi MH Tamim, Moinul Karim, Tarek Abdullah, and Saimum Reza were present in the courtroom during the hearing.

The ICT had previously set today to produce ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury before it on February 5.
