Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has granted a prosecution petition to interrogate former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Abdul Jalil Mondal. This development is part of an investigation into a case concerning crimes against humanity related to the 2013 crackdown on Hefazat-e-Islam’s rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made by ICT-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mazumder, following a hearing on the prosecution’s plea. The tribunal has also scheduled June 7 as the deadline for submitting the probe report in the case.

Previously, on March 31, the first tribunal ordered Abdul Jalil to be sent to jail after acknowledging his arrest in connection with the case. The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained him on March 30 in the capital’s Sabujbagh area.
