Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has mandated the deployment of an armed police officer for a period of three months to ensure the safety of Md Mohibul Haque. Haque is a witness in a case concerning crimes against humanity related to the killing of six individuals in the Chankharpul area during the uprising of July-August 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during a recent tribunal hearing, Prosecutor Tarek Abdullah informed the court that members of the banned Chhatra League had attacked Mohibul Haque with sharp weapons in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram district. Currently, Haque is receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Lohagara. Given his prior testimony before the tribunal, the prosecutor emphasized the need for his protection.
In response, the ICT-1 bench, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder, ordered the deployment of an armed police officer for three months to safeguard Md Mohibul Haque. Haque is the elder brother of martyred Mohammad Ishmam-ul Haque from the Chankharpul area.
A formal case regarding the attack on Mohibul Haque in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram district was filed at the local police station on Friday.
