Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has approved a defence request to visit the Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) cell of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in connection with a case concerning enforced disappearances and torture during the previous Awami League government. The tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, granted the request following a plea from Advocate Tabarak Hossain.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the defence argued that the TFI cell has been identified by the prosecution as the site of the alleged offences in the formal charges. Advocate Hossain explained that this was the rationale behind seeking permission to visit the location, which the tribunal has now authorized.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim noted that the tribunal’s decision comes with a stipulation that the prosecution must be notified prior to the visit. He also mentioned that the prosecution reserves the right to be present at the TFI cell during the defence’s visit.
