Dhaka: Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 25 public and private universities to strengthen the linkage between academia and the accounting profession. The signing ceremony took place at the ICAB Auditorium, CA Bhaban, in the capital, as stated in an ICAB press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, representatives from the universities and institutions participated in the event, formalizing their commitment by signing respective addenda to the existing MoUs with ICAB. This initiative aims to create greater opportunities for university students and graduates aspiring to pursue professional accountancy education and careers.
Under this enhanced collaboration, ICAB and the participating universities will work together to attract talented graduates and postgraduates to the Chartered Accountancy (CA) profession. This will be achieved by facilitating Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and offering exemptions in relevant papers of the CA program, where applicable. The collaboration is expected to provide eligible graduates with a faster pathway towards acquiring the professional CA qualification.
Furthermore, the partnership will open doors for partly qualified and qualified ICAB members to pursue university degrees and engage in higher education and research programs. This two-way academic and professional engagement is anticipated to contribute to enhancing the quality of accounting and finance education in both the professional and academic spheres.
ICAB highlighted the importance of this initiative, emphasizing that closer cooperation between the accountancy profession and universities is crucial for developing competent, ethical, and future-ready professionals who can contribute effectively to the country. The participating institutions will also explore opportunities for joint research, academic collaboration, and knowledge exchange, encouraging greater interaction among students, teachers, accounting professionals, and other stakeholders.
The event was addressed by President of ICAB Sabbir Ahmed, Vice President Mohammad Redwanur Rahman, Director of Education and Examination Masud Parvez, and Chief Executive Officer Md. Quamruzzaman.
