London: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) have formally signed an Extension Agreement to their existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Chartered Accountants' Hall, Moorgate Place, London, UK. This renewed agreement aims to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions, facilitating membership pathways and joint educational initiatives.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement ensures the continued validity of their mutual recognition and cooperation framework. ICAB President NKA Mobin highlighted the historic partnership and affirmed ICAB's commitment to deepening collaboration in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, ESG reporting, and audit software integration. ICAEW President Derek Blair emphasized the importance of adapting to global transformations in the accountancy profession and expressed ICAEW's dedication to supporting ICAB in capacity building and professional development.
A technical knowledge-sharing session was also conducted, focusing on audit quality assurance, including audit monitoring cycles, risk-based visit approaches, the implementation of ISQM 1, file review methodologies, and processes for addressing non-compliance. ICAB delegates showed interest in adopting similar monitoring frameworks to enhance audit quality and regulatory oversight in Bangladesh. Both organizations agreed to explore future cooperation in training and capacity building for ICAB's monitoring and disciplinary functions.
The delegation discussed ICAEW's newly launched Next Generation ACA qualification, aimed at equipping future accountants with skills in data analytics, technology, and specialized learning pathways. ICAB explored opportunities to incorporate elements of this curriculum into its own qualification framework and considered options for ICAB members to acquire ICAEW auditing rights, including requirements for supervised experience and examinations.
The renewed partnership is anticipated to reinforce professional mobility, improve audit quality, and contribute to the development of a more future-ready accountancy profession in Bangladesh and beyond. ICAB was represented by President NKA Mobin and other key officials, while ICAEW was represented by President Derek Blair and senior members of their team.
