Patuakhali: Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) candidate for the Patuakhali-1 constituency, Md. Firoz Alam, has committed to creating a society devoid of terrorism, extortion, and corruption if elected in the upcoming 13th national parliament elections. He made this pledge during an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ahead of the national polls.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Firoz Alam, who currently serves as the district adviser of IAB and district president of the Mujahid Committee, has a history of leadership, including his previous role as vice-president of Amtoli Upazila Islamic Shasantantra Chhatra Andolon. Emphasizing his election promises, Firoz Alam assured that if elected, he would establish a transparent and accountable administration to prevent harassment of ordinary citizens in government offices.
He further promised to address infrastructure issues by renovating rural roads and to tackle drug abuse with stringent measures. To combat unemployment, he plans to introduce training and job-oriented programs for the youth. Firoz Alam also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of women and improving the quality of services in hospitals and educational institutions.
Regarding adherence to the election code of conduct, Firoz Alam highlighted the discipline and commitment of IAB leaders and activists, asserting that the party has not previously been accused of violating election rules. On the matter of the July Charter and referendum, he urged voters to support the changes initiated by the sacrifices of students during the 2024 Mass Uprising.
Expressing confidence in the electoral outcome, Firoz Alam noted that Patuakhali-1, a stronghold of Charmonai Pir Saheb, is likely to favor IAB, represented by the Hat Pakha election symbol. The seat is contested by several other candidates, including Altaf Hossain Chowdhury (BNP), Abdul Mannan Howlader (Jatiya Party), Gautam Chandra Shil (Bangladesh JASAD), Md. Abdul Wahab (AB Party), and Shahidul Islam Fahim (Gono Odhikar Parishad).
The Patuakhali-1 constituency, comprising Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj, and Dumki upazilas, is a significant political and administrative hub in the southern region of the Barisal division. According to the Election Commission, the constituency has a total of 505,835 voters, with a demographic distribution of 254,335 men, 251,492 women, and 8 third-gender voters.
