The university authorities issued a notification to this end, which was posted on the university website. The university’s acting registrar Professor Dr M. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has been replaced by ‘Bijoy 24 Hall’, while Tajuddin Ahmed Hall was renamed as ‘Shaheed Abrar Fahad Hall’. Sheikh Russell Hall is now ‘Shaheed Noor Hossain Hall’, Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall has become ‘Begum Rokeya Hall’, and Ivy Rahman Hall is now ‘Nawab Faizunnesa Hall’. Additionally, Dr M Wazed Miah Bhaban has been renamed as ‘National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Bhaban’, and Sheikh Sayera Khatun Hall is proposed to be renamed as ‘Begum Khaleda Zia Hall’.

The notification revealed that the university administration accepted proposals for new names from students through a Google form to address the change of controversial names. After reviewing the proposals, a committee recommended changing the names of several buildings, renaming them after martyrs and eminent individuals. These recommendations were approved in the 59th meeting of the Board of Regents.
