Khagrachhari: Police on Saturday noon recovered the body of a housewife from her residence in a remote area of Mohalchari upazila of Khagrachhari district. The deceased was identified as Nika Tripura, 30, of Narendra Karbaripara.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim's relatives alleged that Nika Tripura was strangled to death after being raped. Locals have claimed that Tripura had a prior dispute with a local youth over an alleged extramarital affair, which has added a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
Accusations have surfaced against the youth, suggesting he may have taken her mobile phone from the scene and deleted the call logs, potentially attempting to erase evidence. Furthermore, locals reported that approximately four bharis of gold and Tk 700,000 are missing from the house, raising concerns of theft associated with the case.
However, police have stated that these allegations have not yet been confirmed. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Md. Kamrul Islam, Khagrachhari Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), remarked that the cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report and further investigation.
