Home Ministry Mandates Visible ID Cards for Secretariat Officials

Dhaka:The Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated that all officials and employees at the Bangladesh Secretariat must keep their entry cards (ID cards) visibly displayed at all times while entering and staying on the premises.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the directive was communicated in a letter signed by Kazi Arifur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Secretariat Security Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Tuesday night. The letter emphasized the importance of displaying ID cards to enhance internal security, manage access, and maintain discipline within the Secretariat.

The Secretariat accommodates permanent and temporary employees, meeting attendees, and authorized visitors using one-time passwords (OTPs). With the Prime Minister operating from the Secretariat daily, the need for heightened internal security has become crucial. The ministry has instructed all ministries and divisions to direct their officials and employees to adhere to this directive.

Previously, on October 27, the authorities released another set of instructions to control visitor access. These measures included minimizing meetings with external officials on Mondays and Thursdays when visitor entry is halted. Additionally, the visitor entry time was changed to 200 pm, and OTPs were adjusted accordingly. General visitors are now limited to one OTP per week, and OTP issuance for officials is suspended during their leave periods.
