Dhaka: The government has announced the formation of a three-member high-level committee, led by the Home Minister, tasked with reviewing and updating the existing laws and regulations concerning building construction and urban development in the capital city. This move aims to ensure that the legal framework remains relevant and effective in addressing the contemporary needs of Dhaka Metropolitan City.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Committee Affairs Branch of the Cabinet Division issued a notification stating that the committee will specifically examine The Building Construction Act of 1952 and The Town Improvement Act of 1953. The objective is to recommend necessary amendments, revisions, and modifications to bolster the legal framework overseeing building regulations in the city.
The committee, chaired by the Home Minister, includes the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Minister for Housing and Public Works as its members. It has the authority to co-opt additional members if required, and meetings will be convened as necessary. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works will extend secretarial support to the committee's activities.
The notification also indicated that any proposed amendments to the laws and regulations, based on the committee's findings, will be submitted for consideration in an upcoming Cabinet meeting.
