Historic Citation Honoring Kazi Nazrul Islam Rediscovered After 97 Years

Chattogram:A historic citation presented to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in 1929 has been rediscovered after 97 years. The poetic citation, a 26-line Manpatra composed by Moulana Tamizur Rahman, was recently added to the Nazrul Research Centre at Chittagong University. This document highlights Nazrul's recognition as a significant literary figure and reflects his acceptance in the literary and cultural society of contemporary Chattogram.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the citation was handed over to Nazrul during a reception organized by the Kattali Union Club in Chattogram. The event was presided over by Moulana Tamizur Rahman, a prominent literary and cultural figure, and was moderated by Mahmudun Nabi Chowdhury, a former minister. The citation praised Nazrul as 'Bishwakobi' (World Poet) and compared his literary talent to famous Persian poets.

The document was first discovered nearly three decades ago by Saifuddin Ahmad Saki from Tamizur Rahman's eldest son. However, the original copy is no longer traceable. On July 4 of this year, a copy was collected by young writer and researcher Shams Saimum and handed to the CU Nazrul Research Centre for preservation.

The citation is considered a crucial historical document, especially in light of the opposition Nazrul faced from certain societal sections. It remains an important testament to his impact on Bengali literature and culture, as well as the courage shown by Tamizur Rahman in honoring him during a challenging period.
