Sylhet: The High Court (HC) today announced that it will hear a petition on Sunday, August 17, regarding the alleged looting of stones in the Bholaganj area of Companiganj upazila, Sylhet. The petition seeks to hold accountable those responsible for the unauthorized extraction of stones from this region.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made by a High Court division bench consisting of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur, following the presentation of the case before the court. The petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mir AKM Nurun Nabi, who urged the court to issue a rule questioning the lack of action by relevant officials against the culprits involved in the looting of smooth white stones from the popular tourist site along the Dholai River.

The issue has left Sylhet's stone quarries, including the well-known Sada Pathor, severely impacted. The sites have suffered significant damage, marked by pits and mud, as a result of months of uncontrolled stone extraction and looting activities.
