High Court Grants Bail to 40 Accused in Sherpur Jamaat Leader Killing Case

Sherpur: The High Court on Monday granted bail to 40 individuals, including the prime accused, BNP candidate Mahmudul Haque, in connection with the murder of Jamaat leader Rezaul Karim. The incident occurred in Jhenaigati Upazila of Sherpur.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the order was passed by the HC bench comprising Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah and Justice Faysal Hasan Arif when all the accused appeared before the court seeking anticipatory bail. Barrister Ruhul Kuddus represented the accused in court.



The case revolves around the killing of Rezaul Karim, who was the secretary of the Sribordi upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. The tragic event took place during a clash between leaders and activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami over seating arrangements at a manifesto distribution program. This clash occurred in Jhenaigati within the Sherpur-3 constituency, which includes Sreebardi and Jhenaigati, on January 29.



Following the incident, Marzia, the wife of the deceased Jamaat leader, filed a case against 234 identified individuals and 500 unidentified persons at the Jhenaigati Police Station on January 30.
