Dhaka: The ongoing sweltering heatwave in Bangladesh is set to persist for the next four to five days, as reported by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Meteorologist Md Shaheenul Islam indicated that the current extreme heat conditions are expected to continue until April 25, with a slight reduction anticipated after April 26. The heatwave may extend until April 28 or 29, marking it as the longest spell of heat experienced in the country this year. Further heatwaves are also expected in May, as the period from March to May typically sees such weather patterns.
Islam also noted that scattered rainfall is currently occurring in various parts of the country, including the Sylhet region. The frequency of precipitation is expected to increase after April 26. Rajshahi district is currently facing the most severe heatwave, while mild to moderate heatwaves are affecting other parts of the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, as well as the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Dinajpur, Brahmanbaria, Laxmipur, Rangamati, and Bandarban. This weather pattern is expected to persist for a few more days.
The Met office forecast predicts rain or thunder showers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, in parts of the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, with isolated hail likely in the next 24 hours starting from 9 am. Elsewhere in the country, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. The day temperature is anticipated to remain nearly unchanged, while night temperatures may rise slightly. On Wednesday, Rajshahi recorded the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, while Sylhet experienced the lowest at 19.5 degrees Celsius.
