Dhaka: Health officials today announced the recording of 364 new cases of dengue infections within the past 24 hours, with a significant number of patients seeking treatment in health facilities under the Dhaka South City Corporation jurisdiction.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that of the 364 cases, 78 were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation, marking it as the hardest-hit area by the mosquito-borne disease. In addition, 70 cases were reported in the Barishal division, 56 in the Chattogram division, 61 in the Dhaka division excluding the capital, and 16 in the Dhaka North City Corporation area. Other divisions such as Khulna reported 34 cases, Mymensingh had three, and Rajshahi saw 46 hospitalizations.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has experienced 62 fatalities and 17,582 infections. Despite the rising numbers, the DGHS noted that 333 patients were successfully discharged from various hospitals nationwide after recovering from the disease.
Last year, dengue led to 575 deaths and affected 101,214 people across the country, highlighting the ongoing challenge posed by this health threat.
