Munshiganj: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain paid a surprise visit to the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital to check the real situation of the hospital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after the visit and inspection, the minister has directed punitive action against three health officials following allegations of irregularities, a PID handout said today. Responding to a media query about the measles situation, the minister said a significant number of children missed vaccination after regular measles-rubella campaigns were not conducted on time since 2020, leading to severe infections.

With support from Gavi, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, he said, the country has received 2 million vials, equivalent to 20 million doses of vaccines. A nationwide immunization drive is now underway in phases, he said.
