Patiya: Health Advisor Nur Jahan Begum today visited the proposed site for the construction of a 500-bed general hospital in Patiya upazila of the district. This marks her second visit to Patiya as she seeks to identify a suitable location that will expedite both the pre-construction and construction phases of the public health facility.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nur Jahan Begum, accompanied by high-ranking officials from the health ministry and district administration, inspected the Saidair area of Ziri Union under the upazila this morning. The interim government aims to establish the hospital in Patiya, strategically located in the south region of Chattogram, to alleviate the burden on the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The CMCH, a 2,200-bed facility and the only referral hospital in the public sector serving Chattogram and three hill districts, caters to an average of 3,300 patients daily. With rising pressure on CMCH and the resulting patient challenges, the government plans to build the new hospital to enhance healthcare services in South Chattogram.
Nur Jahan Begum emphasized the government's commitment to improving healthcare services for the local population. She expressed optimism that a public sector hospital at this site could significantly benefit residents of the south Chattogram region, Bandarban, and Cox's Bazar districts.
The Health Advisor was joined by Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, Director of Health Services, Chattogram Division Dr. Ang Sui Pru Marma, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam, and several other notable figures during the site inspection.
Previously, on March 16, Advisor Nur Jahan Begum reviewed another potential site for the hospital in the Harinkhain area of Kusumpura Union in Patiya upazila.
