Dhaka: A female headteacher of a government primary school in Bogura died following a fall from a rickshaw during a snatching bid near the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Ranjina Parvin, headteacher of Bagbari Balika Government Primary School in Bogura.
According to United News of Bangladesh, police reported that Ranjina had traveled to Dhaka from Bogura to see a doctor at Islamia Eye Hospital in the Farmgate area. She arrived at Gabtoli Bus Terminal early in the morning and was traveling by rickshaw to the hospital around 6:30 am. As she neared the South Plaza of Sangsad Bhaban, a motorcycle approached from behind, and its occupants attempted to snatch her bag.
In the ensuing struggle, she fell onto the road and sustained a severe head injury, police stated. Bystanders quickly rescued her from the scene and transported her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Family members of the deceased have declined to comment on the incident. Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Ibn-e-Mizan said that the police are actively working to identify the motorcycle and the individuals involved in the snatching. "Counter Terrorism, DB, and other agencies are also working. We hope to identify and arrest them very soon," he assured.
