Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today stayed the Shahjalal University Central Students Union (SUCSU) elections for four weeks. A division bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan issued the order following a hearing on a writ petition related to the elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the writ petition was filed by three individuals, including Mominur Rashid Shuvo, who is a candidate for the vice president position. The petition was submitted on January 18, seeking a delay in the election process.
The plea was presented in court by Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Rashna Imam, and Moniruzzaman Asad, while Mohammad Hossain Lipu represented the university. Additional Attorney General Aneek Rushd Haque appeared on behalf of the state. The SUCSU election, initially set to occur tomorrow, was expected to take place after a 28-year hiatus.
