Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today issued a rule concerning the National Sports Council's (NSC) decision to remove Faruque Ahmed from the position of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president and install Aminul Islam Bulbul as his successor. A division bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Shathika Hossain passed the order, instructing the BCB board of directors to maintain the status quo in its operations. This order followed a hearing on a writ petition filed by the former BCB president.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the lawyers involved in the case indicated that the current BCB board of directors, led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, can continue its activities. Senior jurist Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented Faruque Ahmed, Additional Attorney General Aneek Rushd Haque argued on behalf of the NSC, while Barrister Nasir Uddin Ashim and Barrister Mahin M Rahman advocated for the BCB and its president Aminul Islam Bulbul.
Previously, on June 2, the High Court removed a related writ filed by Faruque Ahmed from its cause list. This action was taken by a division bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, who dismissed the plea 'out of the list.' The NSC had earlier, on May 29, annulled Faruque's nomination as a BCB director and appointed Aminul Islam Bulbul as a director the following day. In response, Faruque Ahmed filed the writ with the High Court, contesting the NSC's two decisions.
