Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today quashed the proceedings of a case filed under the controversial Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act against noted photographer Shahidul Alam. The decision was made by a two-member High Court bench led by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case was filed with the capital’s Ramna Police Station on August 6, 2018, just a day after Shahidul Alam was detained from his Dhanmondi flat. The charges against him included spreading propaganda and false information against the then government during the Road Safety Movement.

Barrister Sara Hossain and Abdullah Al Noman represented Shahidul in the legal proceedings. Despite the initial charges, Shahidul Alam was released on bail on November 20, 2018, and has since been awaiting the resolution of the case.
