Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today ordered the authorities concerned to declare the UN fact-finding report on the 2024 July Uprising as a 'historic document'.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a High Court division bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur pronounced the judgment, declaring absolute a rule it had issued earlier. The court ordered the publication of this report as a gazette titled 'July Revulation-2024' and instructed the Law Ministry to submit a progress report on the matter within three months.
The court issued the rule on May 14, 2025, questioning why the fact-finding report of the United Nations (UN) on the July Mass Uprising should not be declared a 'historic document'. The division bench of the HC, consisting of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf, passed the order after a hearing on a writ filed by Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Md Tanvir Ahmed.
In its rule, the HC bench also inquired why the document should not be preserved for future generations.
