Dhaka: The High Court (HC) has removed from its cause list a writ petition that pleaded for forming a judicial commission to investigate the killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag at the city’s Mitford area on July 9. The decision was delivered in a short order by the High Court division bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, which simply stated ‘Deleted’.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the writ petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Md Eunus Ali Akond on July 13. The petition not only sought the formation of a judicial commission but also requested the court to direct the arrest of those responsible for the brutal killing and to ensure compensation for the victim’s family.

Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag, aged 39, was tragically hacked, beaten, and stoned to death on July 9 near Gate-3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. The incident has raised significant concern, prompting legal action to seek justice for the victim and his family.
