Dhaka:Hawkers operating on roads and footpaths outside designated sites in Dhaka will face eviction, seizure of their goods, and legal action, as declared by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Valiant Freedom Fighter Abdus Salam.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the administrator emphasized that no hawker would be allowed to operate without registration. He stated, "From now on, if anyone reoccupies a footpath after eviction, their goods will be seized and a case will be filed directly along with the eviction."

The announcement was made during a press briefing following an inspection of overall cleanliness and the eviction of illegal encroachments from roads in Dhalpur. The administrator warned that strict action would be taken against hawkers illegally occupying any footpath, particularly on the main road from Zero Point to Sadarghat, unless they are in designated areas.

He further clarified that decisions regarding serving notices to hawkers and their rehabilitation were made after meetings with hawker leaders, and there would be no issuance of new notices. The administrator called for consideration of the desires of Dhaka's tax-paying citizens concerning the rehabilitation issue.

During his inspection, Abdus Salam expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in completing Dhaka WASA's development works at the entrance of Regional Office-5 of DSCC, which has caused significant public suffering. He noted that instructions have been given to WASA and other agencies to coordinate and complete road excavation works within the set timeframe.

Aiming to resolve long-standing complications, the administrator stated that regular meetings led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman are held every 15 days to improve coordination among service agencies. He highlighted that a coordinated effort involving WASA, the city corporation, T and T, and the power division is underway to find permanent solutions.
