Chattogram: Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has declared that legal actions, including eviction drives, will be implemented against individuals who commence hawker operations at the New Market intersection before 4 pm. The mayor emphasized that this area is a crucial commercial zone where no unauthorized occupation of roads or sidewalks through permanent structures will be tolerated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat stated that hawkers would be allowed to operate at the intersection post-4 pm, provided they utilize movable carts or handcarts. These remarks were made during an eviction drive led by the mayor at the New Market intersection on Tuesday morning. He instructed the removal of all illegal and permanent structures and urged traders to maintain cleanliness in their business areas.
Additionally, Dr. Shahadat directed that umbrellas used by hawkers should not impede pedestrian movement. He warned that legal actions would be pursued against those who occupy sidewalks and cause public inconvenience. The eviction drive saw the presence of Special Magistrate Md. Shoaib Uddin Khan, Executive Officer Abhishek Das, and officials from the cleanliness department.
