Dhaka: Calling for working together to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country, adviser for local government A. F. Hassan Ariff today said unity is the driving force of the cooperative movement. ‘The main purpose of cooperatives is to work together. But dispute over issuance of membership of the cooperative is not desirable,’ he said while distributing the National Cooperative Prize among the winners marking the 53rd National Cooperatives Day at the Department of Cooperatives in Agargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Women and Children and Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid addressed the function as a special guest while Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Secretary Mosammat Shahanara Khatun presided over the event. Director General of the Department of Cooperatives Md Shariful Islam gave the welcome address.
Ariff stated that disagreements may occur between two persons, but such disputes can be resolved within the framework of the existing cooperative law. He emphasiz
ed that a conflict of interest within the cooperative is not expected. The adviser further explained that the cooperative movement fails when conflicts among members escalate to the court. All misunderstandings must be resolved through united efforts, Ariff asserted.
Sharmin S Murshid remarked, ‘We have created a society engulfed by injustice and corruption. We do not want to go back to the situation before August 5.’ On the occasion of National Cooperative Day-2024, seven cooperative societies and three individuals in different categories were honored with cooperative awards.
