Sylhet: All-rounder Abu Haider Rony hammered a quick-fire 86 not out as Mymensingh put themselves in a strong position against Barishal on Day 1 of the sixth round of the National Cricket League (NCL) at Sylhet Academy today. Haider's aggressive innings came off just 64 balls and included seven fours and six sixes, steering the side to 280-6 at stumps. Al-Amin Hossain was batting alongside him with a score of 70.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the pair put on a 120-run partnership for the undefeated seventh wicket, keeping Mymensingh on track for a substantial first innings total. After opting to bat first, Mymensingh struggled initially as openers Mahfijul Islam and Naim Sheikh were dismissed cheaply, returning to the dressing room with single-digit scores.
Ariful Islam played a crucial role by scoring 48 runs and holding the innings together, but Mymensingh faced setbacks as they lost wickets in clusters, leaving them precariously placed at 160-6. The partnership between Haider and Al-Amin, however, helped the side recover from the collapse and put them in a strong position moving forward.
