Rajshahi:A grocery shop owner in the Bakir Mor area of Rajshahi city was brutally hacked to death by a group of assailants early Sunday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim, Abdul Bari, 40, was attacked following a disagreement on Saturday evening. The conflict began when several youths from the Chandipur area visited Bari's shop and requested him to change a note. Upon his refusal, tensions escalated into a scuffle.
Relatives of Bari reported that around 145 a.m., a group of 50 to 55 individuals arrived at the shop armed with locally made weapons and petrol bombs. They allegedly broke into the shop, threw a petrol bomb, and set it on fire. As Bari and his family fled the fire, the attackers assaulted him with sharp weapons, critically injuring him.
After the attackers left, Bari was taken by his relatives to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.
Abul Kalam Azad, the officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station, stated that police officers visited the scene following the incident. As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made. The victim's body remains in the hospital morgue and will be released to the family after an autopsy. Preparations are being made to file a case, and legal action will be pursued to apprehend those responsible once a formal complaint is lodged.
