Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain today reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Bangladesh a child-friendly nation. He made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a meeting organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy on its premises, commemorating the Bengali New Year 1433.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Zahid Hossain highlighted the early initiatives taken by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the pioneer of Bangladesh’s independence, to ensure proper support for children. Recognizing the need for fostering children’s development, President Ziaur Rahman established Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Shishu Park, aiming to prepare children to face future challenges. The minister noted the significant expansion of the Shishu Academy to the district level under President Ziaur Rahman’s visionary leadership.

Despite the initial progress, Zahid Hossain acknowledged that the Shishu Academy later faced challenges in receiving adequate support for children’s development. Emphasizing the current government’s dedication, he stated that the administration, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is actively working to promote children’s development across all districts and up to the upazila level. This includes efforts to nurture children’s thoughts, ensure their education, and prepare them as competent future leaders.

Women and Children Affairs Secretary Yasmeen Parveen, who chaired the program, emphasized the importance of children’s participation in Shishu Academy’s initiatives. She remarked that these programs are essential for instilling national and cultural values in the future generations and urged collective efforts for children’s creative development.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy Director General Arju Ara Begum delivered the welcome speech at the event. The gathering also included notable attendees such as Dr. Sharifa Karim Swarna, the minister’s wife, and senior officials from various ministries and departments.
