Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today reaffirmed the interim government's commitment to implementing state reform initiatives aimed at transforming Bangladesh into a "New Bangladesh" as outlined in the July National Charter and the July Declaration. Addressing a seminar titled 'Gum Nikristo Fascibadi Shasoner Hatiyar' at the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Auditorium, Khan emphasized the significant change brought about by the events of July, which catalyzed a national transformation within just 36 days.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was organized to unveil the cover of a book titled 'Aynaghorer Sakkhi: Gum Jiboner Aat Bochor', written by Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Quashem Arman, which chronicles the incidents of his detained life. The event was a joint effort by the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) and Procchod Prokashon.
During his address, Adilur Rahman Khan highlighted the end of an era marked by fascist rule and the sacrifices made by hundreds of martyrs, as well as the struggles of individuals still recovering from past injustices. He asserted that Bangladesh now stands at a pivotal moment, where former victims of enforced disappearance can freely express themselves after being silenced by the previous regime.
Khan further emphasized that the country has emerged from the shadow of extrajudicial killings and unlawful oppression, with ongoing efforts to establish the rule of law and deliver justice to victims. He revealed that trial processes against perpetrators have commenced, offering hope for those who suffered past injustices.
Stressing the importance of the July Declaration's spirit, Khan noted that while fascism has been defeated, it remains a persistent threat. He called for unity among citizens and political forces to continue the fight and sustain Bangladesh's democratic and reformist progress.
The event also featured speeches from DUCSU VP Abu Shadik, Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Quashem, Aynaghar victim Abdullah Aman Azmi, and other DUCSU leaders, all of whom echoed the call for unity and justice.
