Satkania: Religious Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain today emphasized the significant impact of the government Zakat Fund on poverty alleviation, highlighting its potential to accelerate poverty reduction efforts when strengthened.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Khalid made these remarks during a program held at Babunagar Jame Mosque premises in Satkania Upazila, where money from the government Zakat Fund was distributed to local poor and helpless individuals. Addressing the recipients, he stressed the importance of utilizing the funds in a planned and effective manner to foster self-reliance within society.
Dr. Khalid advised recipients to invest the zakat money in income-generating activities such as raising livestock and poultry, engaging in fishing, vegetable production, and establishing cottage industries. He asserted that such initiatives would expedite the process of poverty alleviation.
Furthermore, Dr. Khalid urged citizens to contribute to the government Zakat Fund, highlighting the transformative potential of a robust fund for the welfare of the nation’s impoverished population. He emphasized that a strengthened fund could lead to improved socio-economic conditions across the country.
He also appealed to affluent members of society to extend their support to the less fortunate. The event saw the distribution of funds to 64 individuals from various classes and professions, with the aim of providing them a stepping stone towards economic independence.
Present at the event were Islamic Foundation’s Chattogram Divisional Director Sardar Sarwar Alam and Satkania Upazila Nirbahi Officer Milton Biswas, among others, who supported the initiative.
